Lower Your Stroke Risk By Juicing These Foods

Do the risk factors for stroke run in your family? Have any of your direct relatives ever had a stroke? Are you of the age when having a stroke becomes a real possibility? If so, you should be proactive about lowering your risk of eventually having a stroke. There are a number of things that you can do to reduce your stroke risk, but one of the easier ways to accomplish this is regularly juicing foods that can help you lower your stroke risk. These foods all have nutritional benefits that make it less likely that you will experience a stroke in the near future.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are excellent for juicing and contain high levels of lycopene, which has been found to reduce stroke risk. A study conducted by researchers at the University of Eastern Finland found that men with the highest levels of lycopene in their blood were the least likely to have a stroke over 12 years. Researcher Jouni Karppi, Ph.D, said, “This study adds to the evidence that a diet high in fruits and vegetables is associated with a lower risk of stroke. The results support the recommendation that people get more than five servings of fruits and vegetables a day, which would likely lead to a major reduction in the number of strokes worldwide, according to previous research.”

Oranges

Oranges are another great food for lowering your stroke risk. Oranges contain important antioxidants called flavonoids that help reduce the risk of having a stroke. Researcher Kathryn M. Rexrode, MD, MPH, of Boston’s Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital, said, “Our study supports the conclusion that flavanones are associated with a modest reduction in stroke risk.”

Ingredients

Lemon – 1/2 fruit
Tomato – 1 large whole
Watermelon – 1 large wedge

Directions

Process all ingredients in a juicer, shake or stir and serve.
