The Increasing Popularity Of Juicing
Juicing has increased in popularity so much over the last few years that, in some places, it seems like there is a juice bar on every corner. In areas where it is harder to find juice bars, people can go into a coffee shop to get their juice fix. Grocery stores are selling organic juices by the case and some restaurants have put specialty juices on their menus. So, why is juicing so popular all of a sudden?
Juicing actually started to become popular in certain circles in the 1980’s, as various juicers models for the home came onto the market. As juicing’s popularity expanded over the years, better, more efficient juicers were created to satisfy the needs of consumers. Today, there are dozens of different juicers to choose from that can juice fruits and vegetables in a variety of ways. The ability to choose from a wide range of juicers and decide how strained or pulpy to make the juice made juicing palatable to more people.
Now, companies are priding themselves on their new juice creations. At Melvin’s Juice Box in New York, the signature juice is the Jamaican Green, a juice consisting of kale, apple, lemon, ginger and celery. In another popular juice bar in New York called Creative Juice, the favorite combination is the Zest for Life, a juice containing beet, blood orange, fennel and shiso leaf. Even chefs are jumping on the juicing bandwagon, creating signature juice blends to go with their meals. Since nearly any fruit or vegetable can be juiced, the possible combinations are endless.
