Why You Should Be Juicing Cabbage

One of the best vegetables for juicing is cabbage. Cabbage has a round shape and is composed of superimposed leaf layers. It belongs to the cruciferous vegetable family, a group of vegetables that includes kale, broccoli, collards and Brussels sprouts and has been found to have many health benefits for humans. If you want to receive the fantastic health benefits provided by the cruciferous vegetable family, include these vegetables as part of your diet 2-3 times per week.

Different types of cabbage (red, green, and Savoy) satisfy different nutritional needs, so you will get the broadest health benefits with the inclusion of all varieties in your regular diet. Green cabbage is the most commonly eaten variety of cabbage. Red cabbage has a robust hearty flavor and added nutritional benefits, including high concentrations of anthocyanin polyphenols, which are protective phytonutrients that are also responsible for the deep red color of the cabbage.

Cabbage is an excellent source of vitamin C and a very good source of manganese. The vegetable has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory nutrients as well. Without the intake of adequate amounts of anti-inflammatory nutrients, the regulation of our inflammatory system can become compromised, subjecting us to the numerous problems associated with chronic inflammation.

Cabbage has been found to be a good source of sinigrin, a compound that has been linked to unique cancer preventing properties with respect to bladder cancer, colon cancer, and prostate cancer. Raw cabbage has been shown to have good cancer-preventive benefits, but long-cooked cabbage has failed to demonstrate measurable benefits in scientific tests. Cabbage also provides some special cholesterol-lowering benefits and helps to clear out your digestive track. Long-established health research has shown that cabbage juice can play a role in helping stomach ulcers heal more quickly along with providing other health benefits for the stomach and digestive tract.
