Juicing Tips: Cleaning Your Fruits And Vegetables

fruits and vegetablesIn recent months, there have been a number of health scares associated with consuming raw fruits and vegetables. Because these foods were not cleaned properly, either by the packager or the purchaser when they got home, the people who consumed these food products became extremely ill. It is always important to clean your fruits and vegetables properly, especially if you are going to use them for juicing. Here are some tips that can help you clean your fruits and vegetables thoroughly.

If you simply rinse your fruits and vegetables in clean running water, there is a chance that harmful agents will remain on the foods. These harmful agents may include dangerous bacteria, like E.Coli, which can be deadly in certain situations. They may also contain harmful chemicals and pesticides. If these contaminants are on the foods when you juice them, the contaminants will end up in your juice.

If you are planning to juice fruits or vegetables or eat them raw, it is a good idea to wash them first in a commercially available vegetable wash. These washes use naturally available sources of acids to create a cleaning solution that is effective at removing dirt, bacteria, and common contaminants from the surface of the foods. You can also create your own cleaning solution by combining the juice of one lemon with two teaspoons of white vinegar and one cup of water in a spray bottle and shaking thoroughly.

It is also helpful to use a vegetable brush to scrub the surfaces of the fruits and vegetables while using the cleaning solution. A good vegetable brush can clean fruits and vegetables without bruising or scraping them. The bristles on the brush should be firm enough to provide a good cleaning while also being soft enough to avoid damaging the produce. It should also have a sturdy handle to hold onto while cleaning.
