Juicing Recipes to Lower Hypertension

Hypertension, also known as “high blood pressure” is no laughing matter and in fact, this disease is the number one contributing cause of death for hundreds of thousands of Americans every year.  Current statistics show that one of every three adults living in the United States has hypertension and of those, approximately 70% rely on medication to control it.  If left untreated, hypertension creates a serious risk factor for heart disease, congestive heart failure, kidney disease, and stroke.  This disease has become such a huge problem that more than $76 billion dollars was spent in 2010 alone for health care, medication, and days away from work.

With hypertension, blood pressure within the arteries skyrockets.  In a person without this disease, as the heart beats, blood is pumped through the arteries and then out to the rest of the body.  Blood pressure, which is the force of blood being pushed against the walls of blood vessels, can become too high.  As a result, the heart has to work harder than it should, which can lead to a heart attack, stroke, aneurysm, heart failure, and even renal or kidney failure.

Normal blood pressure is measured as 120/80.  The number 120 is the systolic measurement, which is the top pressure within the arteries while the number 80 is the diastolic measurement for pressure within the arteries.  When someone has pre-hypertension, meaning the disease has not yet developed although this person is still at risk for developing it, blood pressure would measure at 139/89.  However, once a person’s blood pressure reaches 140/90 or higher, the diagnosis is hypertension or high blood pressure.

Interestingly, a number of factors contribute to the development of hypertension.  These risks include smoking, obesity, lack of exercise or physical activity, diabetes, vitamin D deficiency, age, stress, alcoholism, medication, high salt intake, genetics, insufficient consumption of magnesium, calcium, and potassium, chronic kidney disease, tumors, and thyroid or adrenal health problems.  With a firm diagnosis, treatment is often available but one of the best options starts with prevention.  Regardless if you want to avoid risks of hypertension or you have already been diagnosed, you can make changes that would make a significant difference and possibly save your life.

For starters, you need to start exercising.  Even 30 minutes a day helps.  In addition, you want to reduce salt intake, stop smoking, and limit the amount of alcohol consumed.  Additionally, diet is very important for hypertension, which is why hypertension juicing recipes have become a part of the daily regimen for people wanting to prevent the disease, as well as those fighting it.  The great thing about hypertension juicing recipes is that they are incredibly tasty so sticking to the regimen is easy.

Juicing Recipes to Lower Hypertension

Recipe One

•    Two carrots
•    Two red apples (cored, seeds removed, and skin left on)
•    One-half cup fresh parsley
•    One-inch fresh ginger

After cleaning all the ingredients, feed everything through the juicer excluding the parsley.  Then, very slowly add the parsley as the last ingredients.  When done, serve over ice.

Recipe Two

•    One cup beets
•    Two carrots
•    Two celery stalks
•    One-quarter cup parsley
